Short Term Roles

The following positions are available for short term volunteers: Assistant Education Coordinator/Teacher, Community Small Business Assistant and Sports Coordinator.

A2.     Assistant Education Coordinator/Teacher

This position would assist the long term Education Coordinator/Teacher. See the long term role for more information.

Essential skills required

  • Desire and ability to communicate with children and adults, both independently and within a team
  • Ability to communicate in basic Spanish and English
  • Experience in effective organizational skills and ability to prioritize workloads
  • Ability to research and implement appropriate activities for children

Desirable skills

  • Prior teaching experience
  • Ability in teaching activities to children in a foreign language
  • Computer skills
  • Ability to fundraise

C1.     Outdoor Adventure Teacher, Sports Coordinator 2014 / 2015

 

This position is for someone with experience working outdoors doing team building exercises and leadership development.  The goal of our adventure program is to develop leadership skills and working as a team through experiences in the mountains. Although all of the participants live within walking distance of Huascaran National Park they have not spent significant amounts of time exploring or learning about the area.  We are working also to develop a sense of responsibility and compassion for the natural environment and animals which at some point will carry over to everyday interactions with other people. Emphasis will be on the concept of local guiding in the communities around where the project is.

The fall of 2014 will see the completion of the small center which will house the information, maps and give them a space to work from and expand their work options by connecting with clients who will use the next door Yurac Yacu Café (part of the Yurac Yacu Community Center).

Additionally the assistance in resourcing local skilled help and continuing the program development will be of importance.

SPORTS : Also a  seasonal position and applies to the time period when the annual soccer and volleyball tournaments are held. The tournaments are generally held in July and organization beforehand is needed ranging from advertising the event, procuring prizes, equipment repairs, coordination of teams, registration and possible practice sessions.

Essential Skills: Spanish, Outdoor experience which includes camping, cooking outdoors, back packing, guiding and talking with clients, risk assessment, working with youth, work outside of university education,experience with sporting activities,organizational skills and ability to prioritize workloads, ability to communicate with children and adults, both independently and within a team, ability to research and implement appropriate sports activities for children

Desired skills: Bouldering, Orienteering, Outdoor education like Outward Bound, First Aid, Map Reading, Climbing, Water Sports, volunteer experience with youth, experience as an umpire or coach

Length of Commitment:  2 month minimum, seasonal
