Yurac Yacu Community Development Center
Construction of the first module of the Community Development Center (the Education Center) was completed in 2010 with inauguration of the Center held on December 4th. Once completed the Yurac Yacu Community Development Center will house small community businesses that generate income for local families and help fund ongoing education and skills training programs for local residents.
Early Childhood Education Program
Fun classes are provided four times a week by professional volunteer teachers to mothers and children up to 5 years of age. The classes focus on developing early childhood skills including pattern, color and shape recognition, hand dexterity and self awareness. Mothers are involved to foster greater understanding of the child´s development needs. Montessori and early childhood stimulation concepts and materials are used.
Summer Education Program
Creative and educational classes are offered for primary students during their 2-3 month school break. Emphasis is placed on reinforcing their year long school activities in reading, writing and general comprehension. This is combined with art, play and music to help them utilize what they are learning. In addition, for secondary students, a supplementary English class is held to help with their homework and general understanding of the language.
Primary School Nutrition Program
Andean Alliance sponsors a nutritional snack program at the Rivas Primary School. The program provides 30 primary school children with a daily fruit and milk based lunch.
Primary School Support
A volunteer teacher works once a week with the students and teachers in the Rivas Primary School. Emphasis is placed on reading, writing comprehension, basic computer skills combined with art and music for grades 1-4. The 3-5 year olds are introduced to books, stories, creative activities and motor skills development.
Annual Sports Tournament
Andean Alliance organizes an annual soccer and volleyball tournament for youth from multiple surrounding communities. The weekend tournament draws community residents together and motivates young athletes providing uniforms and prizes to participants and winners.
Annual Kids Christmas Party
Andean Alliance sponsors an Annual Children´s Christmas Party providing a day of games, food and gifts for over 220 children under 12 years of age.
Recycling Program
Andean Alliance constructed a local Recycling Center where residents can bring their recyclable wastes and receive a small payment. The waste are sold to a waste recycler once a year and the proceeds used to purchase prizes for the annual sports tournament.
Student Graduation Trips
Andean Alliance sponsors trips for primary school graduates to important historical and archaeological sites around Peru as a means of celebrating their scholastic achievements and to further motivate and educate them on Peruvian history.
Cachimpampa Internet Center
Andean Alliance provided three computers to help establish the Cachipampa Community Internet Center, which will provide internet and computer training to local youth.
CURRENT PROPOSALS
Yurac Yacu Community Development Center
Funds are being raised for the continued construction of The Yurac Yacu Community Development Center. Once completed the Center will include: i) an Education Center ii) a Library/Internet Center and meeting facility iii) a Community Health and Hygiene Center and several community businesses including iv) a Restaurant/Café and v) a Mountain Expedition Services (Information, Guides, Cooks and Porters) Office.
